Fish restaurant in the heart of Rome

Restaurant

Art and cuisine are very similar, indeed they cross-fertilize each other. Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about cooking is that it acquires value and is best experienced in convivial settings. We cannot ignore the context in which we eat that special dish, because "cooking is an environmental art" and, in the words of Perullo, cooking may require a different kind of appreciation, a kind of distracted perception, like the perception of architecture. It's so true. Good taste comes through both the taste itself, the smell, and from the way the food is presented.  Indeed, a dish must be pleasing to the eye as well as taste and smell good.
For these reasons we chose to locate both our venues right in the heart of the Eternal City.

Our newer venue is located at 4 Via della Posta Vecchia in PIAZZA NAVONA, overlooking the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and the Sant'Agnese in Agone church. Piazza Navona is one of the best-loved squares in all of Italy: showy and artistic, bustling and elegant, it is the capital's living room. In the days of ancient Rome, around 86 AD, the square was the Stadium of Domitian, used as the main arena for athletics competitions and chariot races.

Our restaurant sits harmoniously within the Palazzo Lancellotti De Torres whose main façade occupies part of the southern side of Piazza Navona. Other sides are on Via della Cuccagna and Piazza de’ Massimi. The palace of the noble Lancellotti family is built according to a design by Ligorio with stones protruding from the walls that was typical for Roman and medieval architecture. The design of this building was started by Francesco di Volterra at the time of Pope Sixtus V, is and then later finished by Carlo Maderno. The wrought iron door is of Dominican design. Inside the building, under the porticoes in the courtyard, on the stairs, and in the rooms themselves there are many beautiful, ancient statues, bas-reliefs and marble busts. In the vaults of the ground-floor apartment there are several fresco paintings.

Art can stir the emotions and do so over and over again and it can’t be denied that whenever we eat a dish it can evoke the same feelings we had before. Probably this is what we most often look for in food, "we choose to eat less and less to feed ourselves and more and more for the pleasure it gives us." (Ryan Bromley).

We look forward to welcoming you to our restaurant.
